“Shake It Up” was a hit song and multi-platinum album released in the early 1980s by the Boston-based rock band the Cars. It also seems to appropriately describe a theme that has persisted since the start of 2025. In February, the SEC released new guidance related to corporate engagement that could alter how large index fund managers seek to influence index constituents over ESG issues going forward. Sticking with the theme, this month we also discuss shifts in proxy voting policies due to new DEI regulations as well as corporate strategy driven by increased shareholder activism.
